As they watch that consummate corporate douchebag Bob Dole waltz his way into the Republican nomination, the glittering oh-so sincere Hollywood Democrats are smirking. Clinton, their man.
Yeah, sure. Clinton, the one who has been taking campaign money for years from the two big manufacturers of methly bromide --Great Lakes and Ethyl Corp. They make this poison in Arkansas, naturally. This is the carcinogenic killer-insecticide sprayed all over California in the agribusiness fields. It's been outlawed, but Pete Wilson and the Farmers keep stonewalling the date of its demise. A few years ago, Clinton promised Congressmen from Florida and California he would make sure this poison stayed out there in the fields if they'd vote for NAFTA. Hell, Clinton and Mickey Cantor stumped for GATT as an American job builder. "It'll never compromise our sovereignty as a nation." Now GATT's Geneva World Trade Organization has ordered Clinton/Congress to change the Clean Air Act. Yeah, ORDERED. Make it the Dirty Air Act. Let Brazil and Venezuela ship dirty oil into the US. Or else we pay billions in fines and damages for "blocking free trade." Clinton and Dole and Gingrich and Mickey Cantor knew this would happen. As in, all along. Meanwhile Al Gore and Clinton keep showing up at funerals and memorials. Clinton reads this polls every morning and plots out his day. DON'T VOTE FOR THE DEMOS OR THE REPUBS. DON'T. Lets's declare a moratorium on rubber chicken and $2000 cocktail dresses and phone banks and Pacific Palisades liberals and doctors for demos and Christians for G Bible cartoons and breathless campaign meetings in Encino living rooms and Chuck Heston versus Norman Lear. Let's derail the whole goddamn juggernaut and park it in a shitheap. Because they're too stupid or because they're paid to keep their mouths shut, NONE of the Presidential candidates adds up the truly strange graffiti on the wall:
The largest corporations in this Death Business, people like Dow, Du Pont, Monsanto, are each paharmaceutical AND pesticide AND food-gene AND industrial waste outfits. Multi-threat. They pay well for their candidates, at the local and national levels. They sit in their offices and laugh at the campaign workers who swear their political hopefuls will "make a difference to the environment." They just laugh. Well, Al Gore has turned into a piece of furniture, hasn't he? DON'T VOTE DEMO OR REPUB. DON'T A survey by the FASE (Foundation for Advancements in Science and Education) Pesticide Project in LA reveals that, in 1991, the most recent year for which figures are available, American corporations sent 476,000,000 pounds of pesticides out of the country. That's 27 tons an HOUR for the whole year. For HALF of this grand total, the US Customs shipping records are obscure: The names of the compounds were couched in vague, misleading terms. It also turns out that shippers, according to FASE investigators, frequently hide their company names by simply entering the word "Order" instead on the Customs form. The feds acquiesce. Who knows what nightmare exported chemicals are thus concealed? Through Women In Health, a local group which supports a boycott against Dow over the huge human illness wreaked by its silicone breast implants, I have gotten hold of a list of food additives manufactured by Dow Corning. This list of FOOD ADDITIVES was obtained, by subpoena, in the Lindsay class action case (MDL 926) out of Alabama. It's an 8-pager. You won't believe what's on it. I didn't at first. Here's a quick cruise through a landscape of insanity:
DON'T VOTE DEMO OR REPUB. None of them sees the handwriting on the wall. None of them has the smarts or the guts to really go up against the biggest corporate poisoners. Of course there is one man... He often looks like some apparachik functionary, though. He isn't given to Air force shades and jogging through parks in a baseball cap and sweats. His name is Ralph Nader. He just tested the waters in California for the Green Party. For President. Call his office in Washingon, DC. Find out if he'll really come out against all the poison, even if it means no longer supporting the Atomic Workers Union... even it it means saying outright that some industries just have to go, have to vanish form the scene, no mantter how adamant and environmental and "progressive" their unions become. His phone numeber is (202) 588-1000. In many respects he's a hell of a man. If the urge to vote Demo or Repub is just too great, if the need to choose the lesser of two evils is overwhelming, then just stick your head into a speaker filled with, say, Metallica until the desire passes. You'll be a hell of a lot better person for it. |
